Perhaps you’ve got questions about our baby massage course.
Here you’ll find answers to some of the commonly asked questions we receive about our baby massage training courses.
Where Are the Training Courses Held?
We hold trainings throughout the UK. If there is not one currently listed in your area please do contact us, it may be that we can organise a training for you. Take a look at our current baby massage course dates and locations.
How Much Will the Training Course Cost?
The 4-day training course costs between £495-£545 (+VAT if applicable), depending on location. For exact costs and availability, please click here.
What Do I Need to Do to Qualify Besides the 4-day Training?
You will need to complete a take-home assignment containing 14 short-answer questions, 39 multiple choice questions and 6 essay questions. You are also required to teach the 5 week IAIM Course to 5 parents with their babies, either individually or in a group. Your Trainer is available during this process to assist you too.
Do I Have to Attend the Entire 4-day Training?
Yes, it is very important that you attend all 4 days as different elements are covered each day.
Can I Take the Course Online?
No. The IAIM training programme has a lot of practical elements and nurturing touch, which we promote in our courses, is not something that can be conveyed and learnt via online training. An essential element is to observe a parent class then start to teach the class in a supervised capacity.
How Long Do I Have to Complete My Course Homework?
You have 4 months to complete your assignment and 5-week parent course. However extensions are possible if you negotiate this with your Trainer up to a maximum of 12 months after your 4 day training.
How Soon After The Training Will I Become a Member of the IAIM?
When you have completed the four-day training, you become a member of the IAIM UK Chapter. You will receive a membership number and given access to the website, including the forums, and the latest research. You will receive a copy of the Touch Matters brochure three times a year, and access to stroke reviews, study days and AGM’s.
Can I Send Coursework to My Trainer Via E-mail?
It may be possible but will depend on your Trainer’s preference. So if it’s important please ask the Course Co-ordinator prior to booking your course.
Where Can I Work Once I Have Qualified?
You can work anywhere you would find parents and babies. Many of our instructors work independently, from home or elsewhere within the community, e.g. village or community halls. We also have many Certified Infant Massage Instructors (CIMIs) who work in Children’s Centres, which have recognised the value of our programme for many years.
Am I Allowed to Work Outside the UK?
Yes, it is an international qualification. Please see www.iaim.net for a list of the countries in which the IAIM have a presence.
Do I Need to Obtain a CRB Check/Disclosure to Run Baby Massage Courses?
You don’t need to obtain a CRB check if you are running private courses. Some employers however may require them and will request them on your behalf. If you need or want to obtain a CRB check, independent of any employer, all the information you need regarding Criminal Records checks can be found in this document: CRB Disclosure for Infant Massage Training.
Do I Need to Be Insured and Where Can I Get Insurance?
We recommend that all practicing CIMIs are insured. The following companies provide insurance policies which will cover Infant Massage.
- Balens Insurance – www.balens.co.uk
- Complementary Therapists Association – www.ctha.com
- Independent Professional Therapists International - www.iptiuk.com (Discount for IAIM Members)
If you are already insured for another therapy, check with your current insurance company as they may be able to add Infant Massage on to your existing policy. We do not endorse any particular company but provide the above details for your information. We recommend that you do your own research to work out which company best suits your individual needs.
When is My Membership Due?
When you attend the 4-day training, you will become a Member of the IAIM for one year. Initially you will be a Student Member and this will be upgraded to Full membership when you have notified the IAIM office that you have received your certificate. At the end of your Membership year you will be sent a letter reminding you that your fees are due.
Do I Have to Renew My Membership?

My Membership Has Expired…Can I Rejoin the IAIM?
Yes, you can rejoin the IAIM at any time. Just contact the Office on firstname.lastname@example.org and they will be able to give you the relevant information for rejoining.
Can My Employer Become a Member of IAIM Instead of Me?
